In an article posted on Supply Chain Quarterly, you can get an interesting insight on Sony Electronics’ S&OP journey, undertaken in 2009 to improve their forecast accuracy and collaboration with retail partners. The article digs deep into Sony Electronics’ efforts to tackle two crucial issues; enhancing relationships with their retailers for optimized point-of-sale (POS) information and developing a strategy to establish “one-number” forecasting.
The results were fantastic, with forecast accuracy improved by up to 40%. Retailers were delighted and Wal-Mart Stores Inc. recognized Sony Electronics with its 2009 Supplier of the Year Award.
Like Sony Electronics, other companies have understood the importance of implementing S&OP and have reaped the benefits. Two of those are Dell and P&G, ranked #2 and #3 on AMR’s Top 25 Supply Chain 2011. At Strategic Sales & Operations Planning in Stockholm, Dell will speak about key strategies for controlled forecasting at the Point of Sales, while P&G will focus on how to develop a One-Number forecasting in a matrix environment.
If, like Sony Electronics, you wish to acquire tools and improve forecast accuracy and collaboration with retail partners, then join us at the Yasuragi on November 28th-30th.
Looking forward to seeing you in Stockholm,
Sincerely,
Thomas Igou,

S&OP will without doubt continue to be on the top of the agenda, due to the fact that corporations during the crisis have leaned out any safety stocks and now have to face more volatile and unpredictable variations in demand than ever before. To meet this challenge you need to coordinate sales expectations and activities with operations. If not, you will soon be unable to meet demand or you will be knocked out by high costs and stock levels. Also, supply chain risk exposure will increase, as the supply networks get longer and more complex, increasing the need to foresee and prevent risks. Supply chain transformation and development will simply be a key factor in gaining competitive edge and growth further.
With this in mind, Strategic Sales and Operations Planning Europe, will feature best practice case studies from all of Europe, showing you how strategic utilization of S&OP has supported various corporations in staying competitive in a demanding market.
Do not miss this unique opportunity to gain insights from and benchmark with the leading organizations across Europe.
I look forward to welcoming you in Copenhagen at May 23rd – May 25th!
Sincerely,

Strategic S&OP Europe 2011
In an article posted by the Supply Chain Digest you can read about a new report showing the benefits and importance of having such a strategy. The report draws attention to a survey, made with ca 200 companies, on S&OP related initiatives. There are many interesting findings on the growing awareness of S&OP and how it can impact an organization when being implementing. For instance, 59% of the respondents indicate that they are now driving awareness and resources toward S&OP initiatives in order to achieve higher revenue.
59%…that is interesting to me! If a majority of companies are prioritizing to implement a certain process right now, I would want to know why! Start with reading the report here >>
If you want to further learn about the benefits of an S&OP strategy and the methods of successfully implementing it, you are very welcome to join us at Strategic Sales & Operations Planning. The conference will take place in Stockholm and showcase the leading practitioners within S&OP from Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.
Looking forward o seeing you the 29th Nov-1st Dec in Stockholm!
Yours Sincerely,
Josephine Elofs, Project Manager, Strategic Sales & Operations Planning
When reading the newspaper today one was met by two positive announcements made by leading companies within automotive sector.
Volvo Trucks has announced that the company will recruit another 200 people to the Tuve plant. This new staff will, to start off, be engaged under fixed terms of six months. Scania, also seeing an increasing demand for trucks, announced that the company is recruiting 500 people for its European production units. Scania, as well, is also hiring on contemporary contracts.
Both companies are showing how flexibility is key when wanting to quickly adjust to and meet the ever changing market demands, whether it is by production or staffing. The framework facilitating this flexibility would without a doubt be a strategic sales and operations planning.
Flexibility, in particular, is one of the major focus areas during our exciting Nordic forum Strategic Sales and Operations Planning 2010, taking place in Stockholm this fall. For instance, you will have the opportunity to listen to VOLVO’s best-practice case on working with a changing market;
Strategies and tactics to manage the supply chain in a volatile business climate – Experiences from Volvo Group, truck operations
Looking forward to seeing you in Stockholm,
Sincerely,

An annual report, listing the top 25 manufacturers and retailers that exhibit superior supply chain capabilities and performance, has started a discussion on what constitutes supply chain excellence.
A number of strategic initiatives were highlighted amongst the Top 25; organization, segmentation, sales & operations planning, metrics and supply chain talent.
There is also a pattern in the way the Top 25 supply chains look; they have profitable demand response, sustainable growth and satisfied customers.
Analysts of this report believe that this is yet another example of the fact that organizations have finally realized the importance of S&OP.
From looking at our delegate list I can also draw the same conclusion. There seems to be a huge interest in implementing a strategic S&OP process, but also great uncertainty when it comes to how.
Go from uncertainty to certainty in a matter of days, by joining our Nordic forum. Strategic Sales & Operations 2010 will be showcasing best-practice presentations with practical learning points and “take-ways” ready to implement directly in your organization.
Sincerely,
Josephine Elofs, Project Manager Strategic Sales & Operations 2010
